Hello to you all. My 6 year old had his port taken out because of a terrible infection a few months ago. The experience in the ER and the hospital was so bad he ended up having panic attacks when he has to infuse. We are still working on this issue 31/2 months later. His veins are very hard to get and we have went to his hands now. The nurse wants him to try his foot, but I can't stand the thought of it. He's very anxious and there's not alot the helps him. We are slowly making progress, but taking him out of school three times a week isn't helping his grades. The nurse has agreed to come to our house but only a short time. She's been out four times and already getting tired of it. The drive is 35 to 45 minutes one way. We've asked for another port and they really want us to keep trying. I feel we are and it's beginning to wear on us. We don't want to worry about another infection but it's tough when his veins are bad and he's this scared. This was the first time we experienced a port infection. He had just got to the point where he would let us infuse with his port and not move and cry. We have him drink water, put a heating pad on, and the cream. If anyone has experienced this it's horrible. He's been in the hospital 23 days over the past 5 months and two weeks at home with an IV. I would love to hear you thoughts.
Thanks, DeAnn
